Gavin Betts has been named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2026 IIHF U18 World Championship in Slovakia. A consistent standout for Hockey Canada, Betts has earned this opportunity following a Gold Medal performance at the 2024 U17 Challenge and a Bronze Medal at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. I have been teaching goaltenders how to stop pucks for a very long time, so long that my first goalie coach was Johnny Bower. He taught me not to be scared of the puck and, of course, the importance of the poke check!

Years later, I had the privilege of experiencing pro hockey in the ECHL with Mobile and Pensacola, and playing in Europe for Club Hielo Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain.
